This is really an icon of the Virgin Mary (Theotokos to Orthodox Christians) and her parents Joachim and Anna. Her outer garment is red, indicating her humanity and her inner garment is blue, symbolizing God within. Christ's garments would be in the reverse colors and the nimbus (halo) around His head would have lettering indicating His divinity.
