The Stock System

WARNING: This article includes equipment sold by Electromaax in Canada and I must preface this post with some cautions. Over the last few years I have received multiple complaints of poor customer service from Electromaax. I have personally received decent service but I am an n=1. I simply can not ignore the complaints I have had, so I must preface this article with this caution.

There are other companies producing similar products, namely Balmar and Mark Grasser DC Solutions, both of whom have excellent customer support & considerably better track records for customer service. I am not saying don't buy from Electromaax, just letting you know a fair number of boaters have not been happy withe their customer service, so do your research.

The owner of this boat keeps it on a mooring and as such his stock charging system was proving to be inadequate for his family's use. Having recently upgraded his battery bank to TPPL / AGM batteries he was in need of an alternator makeover...

I bought the electromaax alternator and had it installed by a marine service company in Ft. Pierce. After recurring problems (not charging) electromaax suggested I contact a company they knew in Ft. Lauderdale. This company had installed electromaax alternators previously and were familiar with them. Their inspection confirmed the installation was correct. Just 80 engine hours later the alternator failed. Electromaax insists the alternator was installed incorrectly (having never seen it). I re-installed the original alternator, returned the electromaax alternator and they want $950 to fix it + shipping costs.
