April 30 - Overflowing Drought

Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire

This may look like a lake but the space beyond the hut is the Ham at Tewkesbury – a field often used for grazing sheep.
Today it is an extension of the River Avon.
The road this side of the railings is under a few inches of water.

The Ham floods almost every year so this is no great surprise as the heavy rainwater coming off the Welsh mountains is on its way to the Severn Estuary.
What is weird is that we are still officially in drought conditions!

A lovely pearly light suffuses this scene.
So, no, not a typical 'drought' picture, but so nice.
In every disaster, floods or whatever, beauty is to be found.

it is difficult to get a sense of drought here..what a shimmer though from the flooding Avon...stellar, richly atmospheric image...V

Stunning image, Brian. I love the sun on the water but the detail in the foreground is fabulous too.

Brilliant photography Brian.
As they say capture the moment and you have done a fantastic job here, with the sky , the reflections and the composition.

Fascinating. Looks good despite the fact that the water isn't meant to be there!
