Agfa Clack Pinhole - Headstone
Charleston SC
It seems that this Agfa Clack modified ƒ220 pinhole camera renders detail nicely (considering) at the 8-15 feet range.
This somewhat difficult to read replica headstone has an interesting story. You can find it at this National Parks web page.
The actual inscription, which is hard to read when standing there, let alone using a camera without a lens, is as follows:
Parri dilecto CAROLO PINCKNEY Ob.
22d Sept. 1782 Ætat. 52.
What is grandeur! what is power!
Heavier toil! superior plan!
What the bright reward of gain?
The grateful memory of the good
Sweet is the breath of vernal show’rs
The bees collected treasure sweet,
Sweet Music’s folk but sweeter yet.
The still small voice of GRATITUDE
The generous spark, for ever live,
Teach me to Love, and to forgive,
Exact my own defects to scan,
What others are to feel and know
my son A MAN.
In grateful memory of an affectionate Father
this Stone is raised by his Son Charles Pinckney.
Anno Domini, 1785
"Charles Pinckney was a principal author and a signer of the United States Constitution.
This remnant of his coastal plantation is preserved to tell the story of a "forgotten founder,"
his life of public service, the lives of enslaved African Americans on South Carolina
Lowcountry plantations and their influences on Charles Pinckney." US NPS
