The Royal Observer Corp. Observation Post was located on the Rothesay Golf Course on the crest of Canada Hill. It was adjacent to the 15th tee. It was a tall two storey hut painted green. I can recall in wartime being taken there by my Grand Uncle who was an Observer. He had been a police officer who had been invalided out of Buteshire Constabulary after being run over by a drunk driver. The hut was still there in the early 50s

Close... but no coconut. That's the Cold War underground observation post, from where observers would have counted atomic mushrooms had things not gone well.

The World War II observer's post was in the hills above Port Bannatyne, where HMS Varbel carried out training of submariners, and more.

Is that the WWII underground observer thingy?
