Wild caught in Liberia, Jimmie was brought to Kansas City (as 7 year old) in 1968 as part of a "Dr Dolittle" promotional event.
Following the event, Jimmie was then placed with the Kansas City Zoo where he spent the next 40 years.
During his early years, Jimmie would go out with zoo keeper Jan Armstrong for "show & tells" in the Kansas City community.
Generations of Kansas Citians grew up with Jimmie, and many have very fond memories of him.
A local celebrity, Jimmie was Alpha Chimpanzee at the Zoo and sired many offspring. His youngest daughter was born just a year before his death.
During his later years, Jimmie would spend much of his time watching the humans watch him.
