It is infinitely better to be informed, to make a wise choice, and to particpate - democracy is dead when its citizens are reduced to drones who do nothing but exist. The worst insult someone could give me as a citizen of a democracy is to reduce me to nothing more than a "tax payer". Citizens of a country - any country - are far more than that. I think it is a profound mistrust of politicians and their excesses (in terms of behaviour) that produce graffiti such as this. Lately though, I have seen signs of the beast (public) stirring - Toronto recently had budget consultations which saw a significant number of its citizens speak passionately about what they truly valued and cared for and to the council's credit, they listened and met their constituents in the middle on many issues. Bravo for all involved.
