Sand Goanna, Varanus (Pantherosaurus) gouldii

Coolatai NSW

During the heat of the day a goanna clings to the shady side of an ironbark tree, allowing it to keep an eye out for prey
without overheating. Although usually terrestrial, Sand goannas will climb trees to escape predators or too cool down
whilst away from their burrows.
