This photo was taken only about 22 years after the mine closed, but you can see the roof-tiles have gone and the site is already overgrown.
Today from this spot, a lane runs between the nearest building and those in the background, and from here you would be able to see only trees.
By 1859 Drakewalls Mine was the largest producer of tin in East Cornwall and employed 398 people.
The mine closed in 1895. It reopened again briefly a few years later but closed for good in 1905.
