New Orleans Southern Yacht Club - Architecture in Black and White

New Orleans' West End

The second oldest in the United States, sits on the edge of Lake Pontchartrain. This building is only three years. The former structure burned during Hurricane Katrina when a gas line broke from the tidal surge and set the building on fire.

When we first saw the photo, our thoughts were that this building was one of the victims of Katrina. It has been beautifully rebuilt !!!

I remember seeing the previous building burning on TV coverage during the hurricane. This gives them quite a view from those levels.

The photo has a wonderful old-time feeling even if the building is new. How wonderful that they replaced it.

It is a beautiful building. Glad they rebuilt!
Janice Dunn03-Jul-2011 00:16
The architecture looks old for a new building. It's massive.
Brenda02-Jul-2011 22:07
It looks much older than 3 years. There's a lot of architectural interest that you don't see in the new buildings. Great find!
Karen Stuebing02-Jul-2011 21:59
At least, the built it in the old architectural style. The black and white makes this look like an older photo. I would have never guessed it was only three years old. V.
