The Lodge itself is partially hidden behind the trees at the rear of this shot.
The cove between the shore and the stone jetty where the boat is tied up was the
estate's swimming beach. The low stone structure beyond the foreground rocks,
with what appears to be light-colored grillwork on it, is the original boathouse.
It became obsolete when Whittell ordered a new boat, and he decided to enclose it
and turn it into an indoor swimming pool. The "grillwork" isn't metal, but rather
a wall made of hollow glass blocks that would provide natural light for the pool.

And this is now public? I am sure glad that Oregon long ago saw that moost of the ocean beaches and lakes, etc, stayed in the public's hands and wouldn't be gobbled up by the rich, and developers.
