Anatomy of A Tapered Cone Seacock

These are the parts of a Spartan Marine tapered cone or tapered plug seacock. Over the years there were many brands of tapered cone seacocks but only two that I know of remain, Spartan in Maine and Blakes over in Europe.

At one time there were Spartan, Blakes, Groco, Wilcox Crittenden, Buck Algonquin and others that all made this type of seacock.

The flange nut on my boat has a radius inside? Is this for a oring seal.... Greating Arie

Thanks very much for these very instructive photos and descriptions. I have an Alberg 35 and was mystified by the seacock in the head, and it's looking almost exactly like this one. Mine has a circular plate and a handle without a name (but 1'-3/4') written on it. I wish I could post my picture of mine here, it has one very odd thing, which I suspect isn't even meant to be there - a rubber washer between the dog washer and the flange nut. Our suspicion is that whoever tried to stop it from weeping thought a rubber 'seal' would help. If anybody is interested in a picture I'll set up an account and post it next. Again, thanks for this!
