This image is very well composed, using a classic "rule of thirds". The subject is interesting and captures the action of a snowball about to be thrown, with a background confederate appearing to prepare more ammo. The tree is slightly distracting, but adds value (to me) by giving an environmental context and a nice background, better than gray sky. The fence post is jarring and the one thing I would eliminate to make this an award-winning image. Technically there are a couple of issues -- this image appears to be straight from the camera and not processed with Lightroom or the camera software. a) the whites are not quite white and the blacks not quite black. Auto-tone or similar command would restore the tonality to that of the scene. This is not cheating, simply correcting for the camera sensor. b) The red siding has a nice geometric texture, but it really should be exactly vertical on the left edge. A simple "straighten" tool in any software would rotate this image about 0.85 degrees to make it perfectly vertical. That is it, unless you opt to clone out the fence post. The snowballer's hand is just barely in the frame and one might wish for a teensy bit of separation there, but it is understandable given the dynamics of the situation. All in all, a most excellent image that needs a small amount of simple post-processing to make it an award winner or hang on a wall. What a wonderful memory of a snowy day!
