Every year when the plum tree behind my patio blooms, Golden-crowned Sparrows,
House Finches, and Yellow-rumped Warblers come in for the nectar. The sparrows and
finches pinch off a flower at its base and eat the bottom, discarding the petals.
The Yellow-rumps, with a narrower beak, poke into the flower to sip the nectar...
even hovering to do so.
