The morning after, St. Barts, French West Indies, 2011

I roamed the streets of St. Barts on New Year’s morning. Some of the town’s bars had not yet removed the residue of revelry from the previous evening. This image tells the story of the morning after. The image is silent – featuring four empty plastic chairs awash in smashed cups and empty champagne bottles. The revelers are nowhere to be seen.

Your comment makes us think about who sat in what chairs here, and how much they had to drink. And if that is the driving force behind this image, it was worth taking the time to make it.

I suspect that whomever sat in the righthand blue chair was nursing quite a hangover on new year's day.

Yes it was -- the chairs indeed do seem to be awash in items that once dispensed liquid pleasures.

"chairs awash"...looks like it was a liquid party.

Thanks, Celia. I, too, liked the metaphor of desertion and residue. This image is about celebration, but the celebrants are long gone, leaving only their mess, under, behind, in front, and even on the four plastic chairs, which seemingly stand here as observers. I count at least four champagne bottles, a few Coke cans, lots of empty and crushed cups, and at least one water bottle. Happy New Year!

A great image about desertion. All we see are only traces of people's presence and celebratory drinking from the night before. I like the power of suggestion you express in this image.
