The entire length of Runway 12/30 had to be moved 160 feet or so to the south/southwest to create enough space to put in a parallel taxiway around the south ends of Concourses F and G to avoid congestion for taxiing aircraft. The tunnel underneath the runway was started at the same time but the runway relocation was finished first and the runway opened before the tunnel was finished.
