I was waiting for you.
I found a cool spot there among the leaves, the sun would soon be setting
And just us two could talk and share our day.
I was rested and eager for you to come. My ears on the alert for your steps.
The others had moved on toward our place for sleeping.
My body kept moving into a ever most comfortable position and I wondered if something was delaying you.
Then I was certain I heard you singing in the distance as you approached our meeting spot.
You were here. My body was warm with excitement as you touch my head. We were together
You did the most talking and I was glad your day was filled with happiness.
You shared the places you had found the autumn colors and the many squirrels you had seen and the geese.
The swan must have thrilled you the most, how beautiful she was, you said and you had made her picture.
We talked on as the shadows lengthened and you asked about my day.
I had played with the little new deer and showed them how to stand erect and pay attention.
You had seen some of my new kin and had made pictures of them. You all are so beautiful, you said and I beamed.
We sat in silence for a while and I felt the genuine bond between us.
Then as before, you put your hands around my face and I knew that man and creation were one.
I watched you leave between the trees and knew I must find my family for the night.
I, in my own way thank my Creator for the bond between man and creatures.
I knew I was always safe with you, i felt a kinship I felt love.
I frolicked through the dark where my family was waiting.
Soon beneath the stars and in the warm earth's bed, I prepared to sleep.
Man and deer,
Our hearts beating as one
calling in peace,
so I slept.
