Reminds me of one of my early jobs Determining volumes remaining in the tanks by climbing such stairs carrying a long measuring pole which I had to insert from the top down to the bottom of the tank and then take the pole out to see how far up the fuel had left it's mark. Knowing this and the diameter of the tank, it was a simple matter to calculate the remaining volume. It was a grueling job on a windy and/or rainy, and/or cold winter day, but someone had to do it that way in those days! Dad
