Night lights.

The oil refinery at work. This is the best I can do as I do not have the necessary knowledge and skills to manually adjust my camera as yet. I do not have a tripod.

Olympus E-PL1

The colors really pop in the night scene. Looks like several have offered "night shooting advice". It's always fun to experiment. I agree with Walter although in my picture, I saw the action in the pool, grabbed my camera, set it manually to get a long exposure, framed and propped it securely against the corner of the house and fired off three shots. Another trick if the exposure isn't too long is to set your camera in "burst mode" (where you hold down the trigger and it fires away) and you often find a sharper image among the blurred ones (if that is your goal). Mostly, have fun. Blurred can be creative too :-)

The colors are very effective and the blur makes it look more forbidding or dangerous.

For night shooting you really need a tripod. Setting the iso higher will just add noise and is not a solution. Ideally night shots should be taken in manual mode, but you can start with aperture mode setting the camera to f8 or f11, this will automatically set your shutter speed. Set your iso to 100 or 200. You can experiment with them etring and focus settings. Use a remote or cable release. If you don't have one set your timer to 3 seconds. Below is a link to my night gallery. All the images have the exif data on them. Any questions you may have, drop me a note. Best of luck and have fun:

To me the blur doesn't matter, the colors do.
How about cropping out the fence at the bottom? Less might be more here.
Great photo.

Even so you have a great moody image here.

The sci-fi look is cool... as is a Blair Witch.
When I don't have a tripod I just look for something solid to brace the camera against. Most everything works. If you can't find your hardcopy of the camera manual I'd be surprised if you couldn't get one online. :)

I like this but if you were looking for a sharp image....set your ISO to about 800 and then push your aperature up a bit and then set it to about a second or so...just play with it. I never use a tripod. If you need to lean on something and that helps steady it.

Forget the tripod, this has an exciting sci-fi quality
