Big Olaf, Pacific Beach, San Diego, California, 2010

Big Olaf makes a colorful splash on the Pacific Beach Boardwalk. This take-out ice cream shop paints its building lime green and adorns its walls with hand-made oversized advertising posters that shout refreshment in near-neon term. The two customers, absorbed by Big Olaf’s bright red plastic chairs, seem to become almost part of the advertising. The image celebrates the beach culture and its pursuit of pleasure.

You have an eye for detail, Iris. I think Olaf would welcome anyone who would buy his products.

Big Olaf also welcomes the handicapped to his "A" rated carnival of color. You can't just judge an Olaf by his "yummy-licious" colors.

Your eye is amazing, Rose. I did not notice those feet and those sandals until you mentioned it. I was dazzled, I guess, by those "yummy-licious" colors of summer at Big Olaf's. Such details as you mention certainly enhance my message. Thank you.

Ahh, the yummy-licious colors of summer! I also like the way the guy has slipped his feet out of his sandals, enjoying his beverage, sunshine and ocean breezes.
