The spear (naginata 薙刀) wielded by the legendary warrior-monk Musashibo Benkei 武蔵坊 弁慶 is on display here along with a pole weapon used by ordinary monks.
Benkei’s weapon is an iron square shaft that weights 200 pounds. Those who can lift it straight up are worthy to be the Kiyomizu Temple’s protectors.
