Good As New

Believe it or not this filter had over 3000 engine hours on it when re-built and other than the slightly peeling label it now looks and works as new.

For cleaning the parts and the filter housing I used Gunk Engine Degreaser, Lemon Joy and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I also polished the bowl to like new clarity using Novus #1 & Novus #2 Plastic Polish and a microfiber rag. Once parts were cleaned I used denatured alcohol to remove any cleaning supplies residue before final re-assembly.

I just bought a new 500fg housing, will be replacing the fittings and all diesel hoses. Racor recommended FTG Filters for the fittings. They are "plated steel". Do you think steel are bad? this is going on a sailboat that may get a little spray from the stuffing box. Also, what bedding should I use for these steel fittings into the aluminum housing?

Thanks for the photos and article on dis-reassembly. I will be re-building the old one, keeping it as a spare.

Thank you for being so considerate and posting this. It was an immense help. It should be part of Parker Hannefin's owner's manual, which was not of much use to me in cleaning this unit.
