Evening in Santa Fe, Santa Fe, Mexico, 2010

Another aspect of Santa Fe style is the covered arcade, which appears on so many of the town’s commercial and institutional structures. In the early evening, the low, warm light can illuminate the walls within these arcades, providing a perfect background for the silhouetted shapes of the evening strollers that walk below them. This couple was just entering the arcade. I relate their shadowy figures to the repeating pillars that urge them forward.

Abstraction often leads to mysterious thoughts and ideas. It appeals to the imagination, and that is what seems to be going on here. Thanks.

The "Do Not Enter" sign adds a bit of mystery to this image. It makes one wonder what lurks beyond. That the couple is in shadow adds to this feeling of mystery.

They both are moving leisurely, but with a sense of anticipation. The position of her head and his arms tell the story here.

I like the way he looks forward and she looks to the light.

You have an amazing eye for detail. I very carefully darkened the "do not enter" sign, consigning it to the shadows. Yet you find it there, and make it part of the story.

Great composition and tension; the pillars urge them forward, yet the sign says Do Not Enter.
