Bald Eagle, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, 2010

I photographed our national bird perched high on a dead tree on the banks of the Madison River. Being clear of spring foliage, the tree offers an undisturbed vantage point to the eagle, which waits patiently for signs of passing fish.

I think the bald eagle was chosen as our national symbol because of its natural bearing and behavior. It metaphorical presence in our lives reinforces that regality. Thanks for the thought, Iris.

So very regal.....no wonder he's our national bird.
