BEFORE Looking out over the family room

This shot shows some other irritating features of the present kitchen, such as the dishwasher that is situated so that it blocks access to the dish cabinet when it is open. In the background you can see the family room. It has no windows, just the 6 ft sliding glass door to the back yard. There is a huge floor-to-ceiling dark brown brick wall where the fireplace is. I have a big mirror above the fireplace. The big piece of furniture to the left is the TV cabinet. It stores a lot of stuff, so we are not ready to get rid of it. If I did want to keep my dining table, I could put it where the TV cabinet is and place the flat TV above the fireplace. The fireplace has an electric insert. The family room has a raised ceiling and dark wooden beams that follow the ceiling contours. I don't know the terminology for this kind of ceiling, it is as if box flaps are being pushed open above your head.
