Coast Salish Welcome Figure carved by Herb Rice
of Cowichan Bay and placed in Hecate Park.
Coast Salish use this kind of figure at the
entrance to a house as a sign of welcome.
This figure was placed in 2008 to welcome
the athletes and their families and spectators
to the North American Indigineous Games.
