Gruinard Bay is one of the most hypnotically beautiful places in Scotland its sandy beach is truly red and at low tide the sand banks dry out at slightly different rates leaving undulating stripes of pale and dark red. The sun had been submerged in cloud for most of the day and as the evening drew close so the sky deepened in hue and cast down a soft blue light that affected the sea turning it turquioise. The corresponding cool colours juxtaposed with the hotter red hues are beguiling and make an intriguing composition that is more about pattern and colour than the place itself.
