Camellia japonica -Debutante -the freeze will kill them.
7 January 2010 Coleen Perilloux Landry

Camellia japonica -"Debutante" -the freeze will kill them.

The Debutante bushes and the Purple Dawn bushes are in full bloom. There are over 200 blossoms. However, the unseasonable Artic blast that is moving down on us and plunging temperatures into the low 20's and even teens, will kill all the blooms. The Camellia Society show is Saturday and I am hoping to salvage a few blooms this evening that will still qualify in Saturday's show. By Saturday morning the blooms left on the bushes will be mush.

Oh, I hate to see that happen to these beautiful Camellias. I don't know if covering them will help as cold as it will be. This is a beautiful shot!!!!!

Oh, this is a beautiful closeup. Love the rich color! . Sad to see the flowers go. :(
We will have a freeze here too. I spent last evening trying to cover everything with sheets, towels and blankets. I will have a mountain of laundry to do after the weekend. Hope you and yours will stay warm!

How very nice to even have these blossoms at this time of year, that is unheard of here! This is absolutely gorgeous Coleen. I hope all goes well at Saturday's show!

What a beautiful bloom Coleen. Good luck with saving your plants. Hopefully you can cover them with enough blankets to keep them warm for Saturday's showing. :)
