Great stuff Dave, fantastic photos as usual! I have been reading Ken's site since I started with a Powershot A350 and a KM Z10 around 2004.

... and a Contax!!!! I thought he was a point-and-shoot / D40 guy!!!!!!!

Yeah, Ken's rain gear is cool. (I have 2 tripods which sit in my closet collecting dust. They are both Manfrotto's.)

I've erased the (mean-spirited) message about "conspiracy" to which Donski, below, refers.

Although not "Ken Rockwell" approved, I have among an arsenal of cameras, a D60 (great price because it's refurbished), which is a slightly-upgraded D40. It's a fine camera and works well my own 18-200mm lens.

I love my 18-200mm, and my D40 along with it.
I had both even before I knew about Ken and his website and how much he prefers his D40 over his other cameras. In fact, it's my very first DSLR.
I'd rather take the word of someone who actually lives-off his camera gear than the guys that sell them at BestBuy.
As for the tripod "conspiracy", to each his own.

Regarding Benoit's comments, below: Ken's a great guy, I enjoy traveling with him, and he's taught me a fair amount about the technical side of photography.

On the other hand, most of the photographs in the gallery were made with my 18-200mm VR lens, and I rarely used a tripod (nor did Ken).

Long ago, I thought using a tripod was an affectation. Then I realized that the way to achieve the sharpest images was with a tripod. With digital photography, I've changed my mind again. Sometimes tripods are necessary, but high ISOs and vibration reduction/anti-shake technology can allow for wonderfully sharp hand-help images, too.

Given the less than sharp nature of this photograph, it looks like I should have used a tripod, or a faster shutter speed and/or higher ISO and/or a much wider aperture.

That is a medium format camera, probably shoots film, and may require a tripod if the film speed is low enough. I believe KR likes 50 ASA Velvia.

"Ken Rockwell owns a tripod" hahahahahaha! That's pretty funny.
EXCEPT he means that in reference to his Nikon VR lenses....(See? I do read his stuff) Still pretty funny..... Gotta love Rockwell!

And he owns a camera bag also xDDDDD it's nice to know he's also human :-P

By the way, I'm a true Rockwell fan, even when I don't share all his POV...

Lol....that's a good one Dave , I bought a Nikkor 18-200VR because Ken said that tripod is obsolete (I love to read him by the way)...Now I will have a look at your beautiful pictures. Best regards from Montréal.

1/6s at f/9.5 ?! Epic phail!! I got rid of my defective Nikon D300 and got a Sony A850 for the same price! Whoo-hooo!

That's a lovely camera. I am looking forward to reading the review. My wife has a G2 and loves it, except when it comes to buying batteries for it.
