Awakening, Bucharest, Romania, 2009

This stone figure, emerging from a niche at the gate of a 19th century palace in downtown Bucharest, seems to be slowly coming awake. I link the figure to its background by juxtaposing its prominent rib cage to the rib-like walls that surround it.

The sculpture itself is eloquent, Vera, but as you note, it is the context that makes it work by extending the thrust of it's energy. Thanks for the black and white idea as well. It would work well here.

This grabbed my eye as I was quickly looking through you galleries as I do from time to time. Just trying to get myself back in the groove. It is the lines that make this image. I didn't realize why but after reading your comments I do. This would likely look nice as a black and white as well. It is so simple.
