Sunday morning, Montreal, Canada, 2009

I knew that I wanted this image to be in black and white even as I shot it. He seemed to be biting his fingernails. He was hunched over, sitting alone on a bench not far from the St. Lawrence River. His blue sweater broke the mood – black and white saved it.

It is a reflective image to be sure, Tim, one that offers more questions than answers. I leave it to my viewers to come to their own conclusions.

I like your title here - Sunday is a day for reflection. He seems hard at it.

Glad this image has made you ponder a life here, Claudia. It makes us think of what brought him to this time and place.

We can tell he is deep in his thoughts.
You captured that moment, you would have stood up in front of him...he would have probably not even notice you were there.
Something serious perhaps is going on in his life.
does he have a life? We will never know...
