Brown Pelican in Flight

Cape Meares, Wa

Imagine, driving along the water, enjoying the scenery, you go around a bend and in front of you are about 1,000 pelicans feeding in a shallow bay. We were astounded, delighted and so excited we couldn't get our cameras out fast enough! We sat for about an hour watching and taking photos. If the fog hadn't started to roll in, ruining the light, we'd probably still be there. Brown Pelican facts: Brown pelicans are the only species to dive into the water from 30 feet above to capture prey. After catching the prey and a lot of water, they tip their bill downward to drain the water before swallowing the fish.

Wonderful capture of this flying Brown Pelican and his pose, beside these wings very well captured in diagonal position, very good lighting, timing and exposure control, well seen and composed photo. V.
