1st July 2009 - cashing in......or not

We in the Alstead-Mingay household reckon that there were an awful lot of people creaming money from Michael Jackson while he was alive. Doctors, lawyers, “friends”, “wives”, “companions” you name them, we suspect they’ve all taken, taken, taken. We were interested to see publication of the contents of his will today (assuming that it’s real and not a made-up story) you can see who he thought had already taken enough from him I think.

Now he’s dead, I decided it was my turn. No, not a kiss and tell story or a “sources close to Michael” story or even an “I wish” story, simply the dim and distant memory of something quite special in the back of my cupboard.

I fished around and found this, a limited edition of Dangerous, with a fold-out fantasy image. Wikipedia says it’s his most rare and sought after bit of merchandise so I thought perhaps I could fund some of the food for our wedding with its sale. I had in my mind a nice, round figure of two hundred quid to part with this pristine and fab thing.

DM checked out ebay to find that they’re selling at around a fiver. Bum (and not in a Jarvis Cocker way). There goes that idea then. At that price, I’d rather keep it in my collection, taking it out from its dusty corner every now and then, blowing off the cobwebs and taking a peek inside.

Pah. It just goes to show that the market has fallen out of the collectors record market so comprehensively since the days of download this and download that. I still don’t get the download thing – call me old-fashioned but I’d much rather have a proper CD in a jewel case with photos and lyrics etc.

So, I can’t cash in on my copy of Dangerous. It’s back to the plans to sell the body to fund the wedding then! (Only joking…..)
