At a gift shop inside the terminal, I asked a passerby to take my picture with a nine-foot polar bear. It was about the size of the great peninsula brown bears at Cold Bay, and I wanted my family to see the size of the bears I had been describing. I was six feet in height, putting the size of the bear in perspective. Someone once told me that polar bears get even bigger than this...up to twelve feet tall! I was wearing my blues under the official raincoat as it was required to be in uniform while traveling during wartime (Viet Nam).
