Begun by Masolino in 1424 with his pupil Masaccio, who continued work after Masolino
went to Budapest in 1425. Masaccio died mysteriously in 1428 and the cycle was finally
completed by Filippino Lippi from 1481-85. The beautiful frescos have survived a
possible removal in 1680 and a fire in 1771 that destroyed most of the church but
spared the chapel.
