Test Depth = Correct Fit

Here I have trimmed some of the wire off, with my Klein cutters, and re-inserted it. The fit is now ready to be crimped.

Do you clean the wire and inside of the terminal with flux (and heat) before crimping? It seems like it would be a good idea to get the surfaces as clean as possible.

I normally leave about 1/16 of an inch of wire showing. This is to allow the lug to stretch when crimped. If you crimp at the bolt hole end first and then at the cable end you will find that most if not all of the wire is covered.
