Those dark blobs in the sky above the distant shore of Powderhorn Lake are not weird clouds
but a 'superior mirage' which result from a temperature inversion. This is when the air at
ground level is cooler than the air above it (hence, the normal situation is inverted) and
light from distant objects normally out of sight are refracted by the inversion and made visible.
This is the first time I've ever seen such a event.
