In 1887 Princess Saovabhark Nariratana, a favorite consort of King Chulalongkorn, and three of his children died, so the king had a marble cenotaph bearing their portraits built near this earlier Memorial to Queen Sunandakumariratana. The 1881 death of Queen Sunandakumariratana occurred when her boat sank in the Chao Phraya River. The King composed the dedication himself, in both Thai and English.
