South Pole Self Portrait

I'm looking into the chrome ball that marks the geographic south pole, at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station on January 5, 2001. It was a great mid-summer day down there, with sunny skies and a high of minus 7 degrees F. In the background, the new station building is taking shape.
