A mother mountain goat keeps watch while her young nibbles dry grass at her feet.
This frame was shot with the point and shoot that I carry with me in my shirt pocket. I had my good camera with me but had handed it over to my ten year old son so he could get a photo he could call his own. He was more intrigued with being close to the mountain goats and zoomed in to 300mm for a head shot of the the mother, now framed on his bedroom wall. The animals wandered off within seconds after we shot only a few frames.
Although I have missed many good shots when handing my better camera over to my son, he has enjoyed being able to use a much better camera for "his pictures". We have since upgraded from the Pentax K10D to the K20D and he now carries the older body while I use the new one. He has captured some very good frames, some of them are posted in my wild horse gallery.
Post-processing included adding a drop-down shading effect in upper third of the frame to darken and bring out the distant mountains and clouds.
