Apparently the black eagle is only for exprt to korea and the next main russian tank will be the t95. Basically a t80 with some improvements and kickass 152mm cannon. To put that in to perspective the american abrams only has a 124mm cannon. Russian crews aren't as well trained though and the Abram's electronics are better too.

sorry, to correct my last post that is a T-72B not a T-80BV, but if it were any T-80 it would be a T-80BV. The main external difference between the T-80BV and T-72B is that the ERA on the T-80BV forms like a wedge but on the T-72B the ERA just sits kinda flat on the turret.

T-90 and Black Eagle are completely different.
also that is a T-80BV not T-80B, and that is ERA it has on it (explosive reactive armor) which defends against RPGs and HEAT type rounds, not armor piercing rounds. New ERA does help stop armor piercing rounds but that kind doesn't really.
It is a pretty good tank, but it is really old and not very good.
I did hear they got T-90's going to Chechnya soon and that will be good.

Thats a T-80b, with armor piercing protectant tile, who ever said you feel bad for those guys in the field..you got a point, i feel bad for them too but not because they are using this quipment, because they are out there fighting.
the end.

T-72 are already old tanks. The were desined back in seventies. The newest tanks the Omsk and Nizniy Tagil plants are testing is called "T-90 Black Eagle".
It's a revolutionary tank in which the crue is not located in the turret any more, but in the body of the tank. This increases the survivability of the tanks crue by 300%.

That's not a T-80, that's a T-72B.

i was wondering ...are the russians commiting A grade divisions to this conflict or just picking random divisions .because from soviet era doctrine all A grade divisions were positioned against NATO troops and they ussually had the best equipment ..or is chechnya a testing field for new equipment so that the russian can sell to potential foriegn clients ,if that is the case i really pity those soldiers in the field ...

this is t80:s with explosive reactive armour tiles, taking cover in a hull-down position. tanks are useless in towns and in covered or broken terrain where guerillas can hide anywhere. this pictures show them taking advantage of their 4km range cannons from a safe distance instead.

Tanks dug in as artillery?? hmm...
