Heliamphora

Heliamphora or marsh pitcher plants. These pitcherplants grow in southern Venezuela,Guyana and northern Brazil.
Massive table mountains rise high in the clouds, here on the summits of these spectacular
mountains grows Heliamphora. They form pitchers like the North-American pitcherplants but they
have no lid to protect them for rain, only a small nectar spoon at the end of the pitcher.
So,the pitchers contain always rainwater to catch and drown insects. They have also downwards-
poiting hairs inside their pitchers as obstacle for insects trying to climb the slippery interior
of the leaf to safety. Fascinating plants and not long described because the locations are
difficult to reach.Only with helicopter or good alpinists :-)
