Biography

Born in Lyon in 1949, of Italo-Luxemburger descent.
Since the age of 16 years, was successively: Hairdresser, then operating room nurse, consultant for top-of-the-line high-fidelity systems, then began to learn the difficult secrets
of classical painting, gilding and painting restoration.
Military service in the South Pacific, on Hao, an atoll in the Tuamoto archipelago, which gave him a taste for traveling.
Dazzled on discovering India in 1978; a genuine esthetic shock and a deep affection for the country and its people.
Several long stays there, exploring in every direction.
Has painted since 1983 & works unceasingly on research into the techniques and practices of the Masters, whether Dutch,
French, Italian or English.
Awarded the Hearts of Creation Trophy at UNESCO in Paris in 1986, under the aegis of Mick Micheyl and Jacques-Eugène Perrin,
member of the Board of Directors of the International Experts Association. Research on egg-based paint (tempera), pastels,
resins (lacquers), oils, as well as papers and canvases, and pigments.
Exhibits in France and in the Rhône-Alpes Region.
Illustrated and published the poet Thierry Cozon’s book "Chant de Paix et des Espoirs".
Participated for three months in 1989 in the Year of France in India, with ten traveling lecture-exhibits in Bombay, Calcutta, Pondichery
and Auroville.
Exhibit in the French Pavilion at the Calcutta Book Fair, presenting Song of Peace and Hope; met the film-maker Satyajit Ray
as he was shooting the film Ganashatru.
Met the photographer and cinematographer Henri Alekan (Port of Shadows, Beauty and the Beast, Les Ailes du Désir, etc. ).
Created backdrops, lighting, and music for the show “The Purple Bird of Liberty”, produced in the Villeurbanne theater in
1989.
Invited by the burgermeister to put on an exhibit at the Festhalle of Kahl am Main in 1991.
Since 1990, has given himself over to teaching classical painting, by studying the master-pieces of such Masters as Vermeer,
Georges de la Tour, Leonardo da Vinci, Chardin, Turner, as well as to tempera painting and pastels, using the techniques of
Quentin de la Tour. Courses for beginners or advanced work for professionals.
Appointed by several major European color manufacturers (Blockx (Belgium), Old Holland (Holland), Pébéo and Lefranc-Bourgeois
(France) to refine and test paints and supports, as well as for public demonstrations at trade fairs.
Studied painting restoration according to the Louvre School. Met Mme Ségolène Berjon, General Curator of National Museums,
with whom he refines his research.
Restoration techniques at the Instituto per l’Arte e il Restauro in Florence. Meetings at the Palazzo Spinelli.
Met the restoration group at the Russian Museum at Saint Petersburg, and learned Russian techniques.
Studied Chinese and Japanese Zen calligraphy and painting and searched for a technique that brings together the Chinese
mastery of the gesture and its poetic expression, and the splendidly complex techniques of glazing, together with Dutch polychromy;
warmly encouraged by his friend the Sinologist calligrapher and collector Hervé Kergueleguen.
Photographer for forty years. After a long experience with emulsion-based film, he became familiar with the Sigma/Foveon process
with enabled him to apply the demands of the painter to the task of the photographer. His photo collection includes
more than 150,000 items. He prints his own photos on papers of the highest quality, such as Hahnemühle, Somerset Velvet,
Moab, Ilford, with colored inks by Epson UltraChrome, their unusual brilliance guaranteed against fading by light. (with an Epson Stylus Pro 4000 and now 7880).
He has been exhibited at the Cologne Photokina biennials in 2004 and 2006, in the Our World Gallery under Sigma‘s patronage, and at the "Salon de la Photo" in Paris, Porte de Versailles (2006 and 2007) with Sigma France.
His Internet site, which has had more than 1.000.000 visitors in four years, is recommended by Sigma France as a reference.
He regularly participates in the Sigma forum on DP Reviews (England) and Chasseurs d’Images Photim in France, as well
as in international Sigma Users conferences in various countries.
