Rock Pratincole

(Glareola nuchalis)
A small dark pratincole, the typical pratincole dumpy thick necked profle is unmistakable. Usually found in rocky areas of rivers. Photographed from the rope suspension bridge over the River Mana at Korup National Park ( see the Views gallery).

I observed 10 pairs whilst fishing on the upper Zambesi 4/10/07. Each pair appeared to have a small territory of rocks protruding from the river. When disturbed they would fly to another rock, but would return once the boat had gone past. The weather was too overcast for photography and the pictures did not turn out well
