Racket-tailed Roller

(coracias spatulatus)
An uncommon roller and quite difficult to locate as it usually perches just below the canopy top. The characteristic racket tail feathers are only present during the breeding season. We located this bird with some difficulty in the woodlands close to Shamvura Lodge, Kavango. We could hear it's harsh call for ages before we eventually managed to track it down.
