(phaner pallescens)
The Pale Fork-marked Lemur is a member of a small family of lemurs which have a disrinctive pelage pattern. They have a broad dark stripe beginning at the base of the tail and running along the dorsal edge and up to the back of the neck to the crown where it divides into two stripes running down the face and eyes. They are very active, quick moving lemurs running along branches and leaping from tree to tree. Being nocturnal, this makes them rather difficult to follow and observe. The Pale Fork-marked is the most common of the family and is found in a variety of forest habitats on the dry west of the island. We found a few of these animals on a night walk from Swiss Camp at Kirindy.
