Grey Partridge

(perdix perdix)
The Grey Patridge is a resident bird in Scotland with the majority of the population being found in east and south-east Scotland. It is usually found in lowland agricultural areas especially arable areas where there remain sufficient hedgerows and rough ground to provide cover. The UK population has declined significantly in recent years due to changes in farmng pratice and the use of insecticides which kill off the insects which the chicks need to feed on. It is considered to be a game bird but the numbers being shot each year are low due to the scarcity of the coveys of birds.
