Founded on August 1st 1881, Hawick Cycling Club is the oldest club in Scotland.
Over the weekend of August 2nd and 3rd 2008, the club organised the Scottish National Cycling Road Race Championships and Round Two of Criterium Series. The weekend was a major success and slickly organised by Tosh Scott and his band of many helpers.
The Saturday road race comprised of six laps for juniors and women and nine laps for the elite men over a course taking in the villages of Denholm and Hassendean, Clarilaw and the historic Hornshole Bridge before regaining the A698 road to Denholm.
On Sunday several streets in the west end of the town were closed off to form a circuit with some tricky corners and a hairpin bend.
