Haybales Sunset

Rafford, Forres, Moray, Scotland.

Actually they are straw bales in a stubble field near to my home town of Forres. I think it is important to emphasise that this is NOT digitally manipulated it is a completely in camera effect brought about by the imposition of 5 stops of ND graduated filter applied across the sky field divide resulting in the necessity of a six minute exposure to record both detail in the sky and in the stubble field. The serendipitous result was that during the exposure the clouds blew across a setting sun creating this quite surreal and extraordinary effect in the sky. A happy accident indeed.

Pentax 67 II ,55-100 zoom,Fujichrome Velvia
F22 at 6 minutes, 0.6 + 0.9 ND grad filters applied across the sky/field divide to retain detail in both areas and echo the reponse of the human eye. full exif
