When the tide is really low and that coincides with sunset then Applecross bay develops these beautiful undulating pillows of red sand, combine this with the deepening sky and the two opposing hues of red and blue and these wonderful shapes can be captured using a long lens and of course the variation in shape form and colour is ever changing. Detail is a must because even the sand banks are rippled and the gulls give an indication of scale. The black edges incidentally are the distorted reflections of trees on the hillside opposite.
